Job Description

Dixon Family Ymca in Dixon, IL is looking for a silver sneaker group exercise instructor to join our 110 person strong team. We are located on 110 N. Galena Avenue. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual, and hard-working.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Community Wellness and Fitness Director and in accordance with the YMCA Mission Statement and purpose of the policies of the Dixon Family YMCA, the Fitness Instructor provide enthusiastic leadership to classes and give a well-balanced workout routine with which the class participants will fee a sense of accomplishment. Instructors must understand character development as the chief mission of the YMCA and personally exhibit a commitment to these values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position must ensure safety of students at all times. Provide a well-balance workout routine with which the class participants will feel a sense of accomplishment upon completion. Must be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED or acquire training within 90 days of hire date. Staff will be responsible for maintaining/renewing required certifications.

Specific Job Tasks

*Arrive 10-15 minutes early for classes in order to set up the equipment and to prepare the fitness class. *Prepare prior to each class by referring to a particular class format. *At all times, enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy to ensure a safe environment for all participants. *Monitor the activity of all class participants. Be sensitive to offering modifications to those in need. Emphasize safe workouts at an appropriate level for each person. *Provide first aid to any injured class participant and follow up by filling out an incident report. *Check the fitness room for possible safety hazards and report them to the supervisor. *Become diversified in teaching skills. Be or become able to teach or sub a variety of class types. *Must obtain own substitute from within the fitness staff if unable to teach a class. Inform the supervisor of who the substitute is. *Create a positive atmosphere and maintain a positive attitude. *Be a positive role model. *Function as a member of the YMCA staff team, developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other YMCA staff, volunteers, and members. *Report to work when scheduled and on time. *Keep an accurate and up-to-date timecard. *Attend department and staff meetings as required. *Uphold and exemplify the principles of the YMCA Member Service Program. *Assume all other duties and assignments as deemed appropriate by the Community Wellness & Fitness Director.

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Compensation is $13.00 - $15.00/hour.
